ERIE PA STRONG VINCENT HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS of 1958
Vincent Middle School
This not-real facade is my Photoshop creation,
We all now sadly know
Strong Vincent is no longer a Senior High School
Our . . . gasp . . . 60th
Side note: we’re anticipating that since our five-year reunions might well be over with after our 2018 60th, that some folks who we’d normally not see at the annual events (that we’ve had since 2004) will show up.
Jean Chambers, Bob Grossman, Paul Erzer, Cathy Holland, Esther Buzzanco, Dave Cacchione, Joe Berarducci, Wayne Brumagin, Bev Ferguson, Bob McGinnett, Lois McDonald, and other non-Erieites are all expected to be here! At the moment, we’re expected to have well over a hundred classmates and guests in attendance…be there!!
The following 60th Reunion Registration form has been sent via postal mail to each of the 202 remaining classmates, along with a “reminder” card for last-minute reference for those attending our last major reunion event.
A Sunday Potluck Picnic Invitation e-mail was sent to over 600 grads from Vincent ’54 to Vincent ’62 on April 19th.
CONDOLENCES to CLASSMATE and FRIEND JAMES (MICKEY) ATKINSON who LOST HIS SON JAMES “MAN” ATKINSON to a heart attack in Atlanta GA.
Son James was driving an airport bus when he had the attack. He died in the bus, but not before he pulled over and kept his passengers from injury.

The published obituary text is puzzling and filled with errors, so here’s a re-write:
Gayle Laureen Fratus, age 77 of Erie, passed away at her
residence on Monday, February 12, 2018 from prior-undiagnosed pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Erie on April 8, 1940, a daughter of the late Wilfred John and Laurette Evelyn Reitinger Fratus.

was a major organizer of the class reunions. She was co-owner
of A&M Bauman Carpet and then co-owner of Russell Upholstery until recent years. Gayle was a former member of St. Matthews Church. She loved her cats, losing her last one, Bert, a few years ago. She traveled to Africa and Egypt a while back. She served
her community at the Caring Closet. She will be remembered by her many friends and classmates as being caring, dedicated, and helpful.
Gayle was very close to the children of her cousin Jacqueline Fratus Labrozzi, which include Jackie’s daughter Toni Gayle Bacon, Jackie’s grandson James (Danielle) Bender, and Jackie’s granddaughter Abra Bender. Gayle, affectionately known to the family as “Gank,” is further survived by Toni’s daughter Jacqueline Winifred and Jame’s daughter Everly.
She is further survived by her brother Richard (Marlene), nephew Jeffrey (Michelle) and niece Judy Langford all of TX.

AFTERMATH . . . of Reunion 2017
Reunion events all went well
* About three dozen enjoyed the evening @ the Gerbrachts; The 4Jays played
* About two dozen enjoyed the luncheon at Joe Roots
* Seventy-three Vincentites & guests enjoyed the POTLUCK PICNIC at the Rotary Pavilion on the Presque Isle peninsula
A consensus was to hold a similar event in 2018, but after Labor Day when the temperatures and humidity aren’t brutal, and when the crowds are less (i.e. easier parking, and when the motel rates for out-of-towners are more reasonable)

Thought-provoking SAFETY IDEA provided by ALICE JONES:
SOMETHING TO TAKE TO BED WITH YOU – YOUR CAR KEYS
Most car keys these days have a panic button. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone in or trying to get in your house, just press the PANIC BUTTON for your car. The alarm will be set off and the horn will continue to sound until you either turn it off or the car battery dies.
So, your car key is a security alarm system that requires no installation. TEST IT. The alarm will go off from most everywhere inside your house and the horn will keep honking, detering further entry into your house or apt and likely causing any intruder to leave the house post haste. If your neighbors do the same thing, they’ll be alerted to call the authorities.
The same goes while walking to your car in a parking lot.

Subject: Senior Inspirations
1. My goal for 2016 was to lose 10 pounds…only 15 to go.
2. Ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons and tomatoes. Actually, just one big, round crouton covered with tomato sauce…and cheese. FINE, it was a pizza…I ate a pizza.
3. How to prepare tofu: #1. Throw it in the trash…#2. Grill some meat.
4. I just did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.
5. I don't mean to brag but… I finished my 14-day supply of diet food in three hours and 20 minutes.
6. A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
7. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk nine feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
8. Senility has been a smooth transition for me.
9. Remember back when we were kids and every time it was below zero out they closed school? Me, neither.
10. I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented…I'm sorry, I forgot where I was going with this.
11. I love being over 70. I learn something new every day…and forget five others.
12. A thief broke into my house last night. He started searching for money…so I woke up and searched with him.
13. My dentist told me I need a crown … I said, “You bet, pour mine over rocks.”
14. I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a day...

Did You Know? . . . there is an intersection of W. 32nd&W. 33rd in Erie?
YEP, the intersection is west of Zuck, past Rolling Meadows Lanes . . .
W. 33rd is south of W. 32nd, and goes east-west, as is normal in Erie,
but at the east end of this short section of W. 33rd, it bends north onto W. 32nd

And, just what does RMS stand for? At the time of Titantic’s voyage, all British ships carried the letters RMS . . . which stood for Royal Mail Ship.
As shown, the Titantic had four large funnels, also known as stacks. And, what was their function? Well, one funnel was an intake air vent; the other three ventilated the smoke from the engines.
Reportedly, the folks in the Crow’s Nest didn’t have binoculars. The iceberg was spotted only 30 seconds before the ship collided with it. Upon spotting the ‘berg, the First Officer called for a turn, but it was too for the massive ship to avoid the collision. Two hours and forty minutes later, the ship was gone.
What? For $59,000 per person, private parties can get a ticket to take the plunge down to the ship via a firm called Deep Ocean Expeditions.
